Why did Suleiman have so much trouble taking the fortress of Belgrade and Rhodes when the Ottoman's had cannons? Because the same cannons they were using were the ones that the earlier Ottoman's used to take Constantinople.

In battles, you hear a lot about formations being pushed around. Or even purposefully letting themselves be pushed back. Is it a matter that the guys at the front take losses, and the remnants retreat back into the formation, so gradually the front keeps moving back? Or would you say there is a different mechanism that results in formations being pushed around?

PS: Swiss pikemen were famous for their do-or-die attitude. They would push forward and rout the opposition, or die trying.

Could we get some more details on the battle with the Hungarians? I'm surprised they seemed to make such a tactical blunder as to charge a superior force. They did a reasonable job of breaking through the line to try and kill their leader, but it seems they failed in that attempt.
